Fell in Love with a soldier from another country. Anyone else experienced this?

I was on Tinder one day and matched with this guy from the army. He's from the US, I'm from Latvia. So first it was all fun and games, I was bored so I decided, why not? We started talking and then sh*t hit the fan. We started sending each other voice memos and pictures and texting all the time. I got attached to him. It seemed like we were perfect for each other, I know it sounds stupid, but I felt like that. He's everything I want in a person. He promised that we will meet. And then couple of days ago he texts me that he will be in Riga, I couldn't believe it, I was so excited, I couldn't believe that I would get to see him. Next day comes around, we're both excited and then he sends me a text from some guy that is in charge telling him to pack his bags and they are going to Lithuania. I knew that a relationship with him was impossible, zero chance but I hoped to see him at least once and at least get to hug him and touch him, that's all I ever wanted. That got taken away, I was crushed. I cried like a beluga whale the whole day. I know it's partly my fault because I should have known better and known that it's not possible, then things escalated so quickly.
Has anyone else had a similar experience?

@huntermeadows: I am not in position to suggest you as such I have never had this experience before. But according to me you said "I knew that a relationship with him was impossible, zero chance but I hoped to see him at least once and at least get to hug him and touch him, that's all I ever wanted" I think it's more of spontaneous reaction.

Ask him his views, and make a firm judgement based upon that.
