What is the general opinion about a girl asking a boy out?

I was so shy I had to tell my first wife I loved her with a song ,,and then squeaked out "Will you marry me "

Bad part to that ,is I end up the big brother figure
the one she cries to when other guys screw her over
"I always feel so safe with you ,your always the perfect gentleman " that does not mean I want to hear about their love life ,but I did end up with a lot of female friends who are really good friends to this day
