Does anyone else get sad when someone suggests sitting down for a real conversation with your spouse

I know that even the suggestion that we do that is going to make her defensive. Anything I say from that point on I know she will attack and fight, ridicule me and argue and then storm off.

Sounds like she's scared. Like you're going to say "I'm leaving" or "I'm gay." Maybe give her a little time to prepare. Set the stage - maybe bring home her favorite takeout and a bottle of wine.

"We have to talk" scares a lot of people.

Write her a note. "I don't want to tell you anything bad. I want to know what's going on with you, with us. How you're doing. How we're doing. A few things maybe we can work on changing to make things even better."
