I somehow survived the abusive mess that was my marriage.
Even spent a month in hospital following an assault by her and three of her male friends !

Made me very wary for a long time after that.

Then i was the sole carer for three children as she went to jail and the whole world turned upside down again for the next ten years !

It took me a long time to even think about another relationship let alone wanting to actually try one !

Some time later i met somebody who was actually good for me. Which really surprised me.
But, ultimately, she wanted to move abroad to further her career and i wasn't prepared to drop my own career, much less leave my children even though by then they were successfully building lives for themselves as adults.

Whether that was because i was fearful of change or just couldn't see beyond all the 'having to start again from square-one in a foreign climate' stuff, I don't know.
Probably a bit of both if i'm honest.

These days the kids are all happily married with youngsters of their own.
The major part of my working life is over and the career, dead.
I'm nursing my mother who has mobility issues. Travelling 200 miles a week to see my father who's fighting Dementia. So i kinda feel that maybe that part of my life has gone as well now.

@Repete Oh the whole concept of being a single-dad was totally foreign to schools and social workers back then (early 90's)
Everyone i had to deal with made it a battle. Even those who meant well.
The kids all still speak to me. So i guess i wasn't THAT bad a parent 😄.
But as for even contemplating doing it again......

I know exactly what you are saying back then the man was suppose to be the provider ( earn the money) and the woman raised the children. A man can't do that. Especially a man raising a daughter it didn't help we had our daughter when we were older so I was an older man raising a kid. @Picklebobble2
