Reasons for being single?

What are your reasons for being single or staying single?

How long have you been single?

I somehow survived the abusive mess that was my marriage.
Even spent a month in hospital following an assault by her and three of her male friends !

Made me very wary for a long time after that.

Then i was the sole carer for three children as she went to jail and the whole world turned upside down again for the next ten years !

It took me a long time to even think about another relationship let alone wanting to actually try one !

Some time later i met somebody who was actually good for me. Which really surprised me.
But, ultimately, she wanted to move abroad to further her career and i wasn't prepared to drop my own career, much less leave my children even though by then they were successfully building lives for themselves as adults.

Whether that was because i was fearful of change or just couldn't see beyond all the 'having to start again from square-one in a foreign climate' stuff, I don't know.
Probably a bit of both if i'm honest.

These days the kids are all happily married with youngsters of their own.
The major part of my working life is over and the career, dead.
I'm nursing my mother who has mobility issues. Travelling 200 miles a week to see my father who's fighting Dementia. So i kinda feel that maybe that part of my life has gone as well now.

@Picklebobble2 I was or am a single dad that raised a daughter from age 2 from first marriage.I can't imagine raising Three but somehow we can do many things we think is to hard . Good for you 馃憤

@Repete Oh the whole concept of being a single-dad was totally foreign to schools and social workers back then (early 90's)
Everyone i had to deal with made it a battle. Even those who meant well.
The kids all still speak to me. So i guess i wasn't THAT bad a parent 馃槃.
But as for even contemplating doing it again......

I know exactly what you are saying back then the man was suppose to be the provider ( earn the money) and the woman raised the children. A man can't do that. Especially a man raising a daughter it didn't help we had our daughter when we were older so I was an older man raising a kid. @Picklebobble2

I've been single for three years. I don't want to be suffocated by the traditional expectations of what people call a relationship. I have done a fair share of trying but I'm a challenge most can't handle. So I'd rather wait for someone who actually cares about me. Someone with patience.

I've been married twice the first was very good the second very bad . Bad enough to say unless I can see into the future I'm fairly sure I'm staying single. To many head games , I love my simple life and am happy with it .

I stay single because I love my freedom and I love my life. I do date and I do have a boyfriend. He has his place and I have mine. I see so many people in relationships that are just plain miserable. all they do is complain about their SO. I have been single since I was fifteen years old and I want to stay that way. I come and go as I please, and no one can question me.
