How do you distribute financial responsibility in a marriage?

Assuming 1 partner makes 3 times more money than the other, what is the fair distribution of expenses?

A marriage is an equal partnership, however with finances , who ever wants that responsibility should be given the reins.

@TexChik In our marriage we share the responsibility, we make all decisions together. We know what we can afford and what we can't. We never make any purchase without discussing it first. The only "division" is she keeps track of what is in the accounts and paying the bills, and I take care of the shopping (groceries and other necessities). We've never had a problem with our system at all.

@indyjoe that’s great . Usually one wants to keep the books and monitor cash flow , manage investments if any .

@TexChik Yeah, which I don't see much of a problem with except that I've seen too many people who are suddenly alone (like death of a spouse) and that spouse is the one who did all of that and then the one left behind is "lost".
