Is this rude ? Calling someone or something they do basic

This guy asked me out and I said yes and he asked me what I'm doing and I told him I was going hiking in vail . And he said I will withhold the "basic" comments for now.

I actually kind of offended by that comment like who cares if its basic and why do people say that anyway. I kind of dont want to go on a date with him if he's going to judge me on something I really enjoy doing .

So "basic" is negative ? I don't really understand the comment, but yeah, I also would not want to date someone who was starting out critical of my hobbies. Hiking sounds like a really cool way to spend one's day.

basic is making fun of someone for liking trendy thing and saying that just follow trends with no individuality. For example , a "basic" girl is someone who loves pumpkin spice lattes , binge watches sex in the city and are obsessed with fall. its stupid who cares if you are sorry i like things that alot of other people like

@mwoodl21 I guess it doesn't occur to him some activities are popular because they are fun to do...definitely a red flag.
