Is it rude what I did ?

It started raining outside...afterwards I sat with a lady and she told me that she was standing outside. I replayed: did you have an umbrella or you were showered by the rain ?

She got offended. I never intended to offend her was just trying to be funny.

I wouldn't have cared to be honest, and yes this evening when I was out and the rain came I showered in it as quickly as possible abandoning groceries in automobile with the plastic store bag on my head. Some women obviously might be offended by it, but where I'm from it's a common joke.
