People tend to live within their earnings.
If you earn 15K chances are you'll spend it. If you earn 115K, you'll spend that !
They say (that's those in charge of screwing up our finances/pensions etc)that you should try and save at least 25% of whatever you earn to 'shield you from unexpected downturns' (Mark Carney quote i think)
Don't think i've EVER met anyone who has saved 25% of whatever they've earned !
