Unless you plan on meeting up with them on the future I think they are

insomniac · 61-69, M
They can. My wife and I lived more than a thousand miles away from each other when a mutual friend introduced us. We spent a lot of time emailing and on the phone. She came up to see me a few times, and then I moved down here to get married to her, and I have never been happier.

We are from the same city but he leaves to go back overseas on Monday @insomniac

How long before you’ll get to see him after he leaves?
I think they can but I think it depends on the people and the effort put into them. I don’t think it would work for me because I would eventually begin to crave some sort of physical contact, and I’m not just speaking sexual. There are many people who make it work though especially if they don’t live too far from each other and are able to see each other occasionally, which I think I’d be fine with something like that but to never or rarely see my partner wouldn’t work for me.

I found them to be frustrating and pointless. I have seen it work for existing couples when one has to go away for work or school but even that is a strain. Starting out a relationship knowing that you are in different time zones seems to be a recipe for heartache.

Depends on your definition of 'Relationship'.
Why are you apart in the first place ? There's another good question.
I mean if a relationship is what you want, you'd shorten the distance wouldn't you ?

In the beginning they can, but not over an extended period.

I think they can. It depends on the people involved.
JesseInTX · 51-55, M
They can if both people truly want them too.
NaturalBeautyQueen · 41-45, F
It’s quite rare

Depends on what you want out of a relationship. Online relationships rarely last for long.
Fluffybull · F
Only short-term, that is, when you're planning towards moving in together.

@FriendlyAmber people can cheat whether the relationship is long distance or not. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Yes if you love the person anything is possible

I'd have to think for some it does.

Only if both sides are reasonable and loyal and most importantly, planning and working on moving in together one day.
I think it depends on what you expect and what you want from them. In reality, rarely do they match what you think.
dommagic · M
Only very rarely when it comes to something serious
Elessar · 26-30, M
No, or maybe only for a short time. At least for me.
rymn22 · 26-30, F
