Is it ok to date a Catholic if you are a Christian? Are they both the same thing?

Yes, the issue is papal supremacy over church matters and the power that holds from the throne of St. Peter's. The Archbishop of Canterbury does not have that same theological construct as the Anglicans split from Catholicism as did Luthetans, Presbyterians, etc.

@toddr13 On the other hand, that issue of primacy ties back at least to the East-West Schism, so you could argue that the idea of Papal Supremacy isn't completely Catholic, as the various Orthodox churches have their Ecumenical Patriarchs.

@RemovedUsername8862 That is true, as The Ecumenical Patriarchs do continue the same connection to the divine on specific matters as does the Pope in the Roman Church. Many of the Eastern Churches do assert catholicity. and constitue the second largest Christian denomination.

@toddr13 Although considering how quickly participation in Russian churches is falling off and how fast the Evangelicals are converting people in Africa, that may unfortunately change.

I agree, that is changing, and LDS are making inroads with both Eastern and Roman order churches worldwide.

@toddr13 The times are changing, although I'm not convinced that replacing the old denominations with the new benefits many.

@RemovedUsername8862 No, because there's also a cultural and historical loss, as opposed to adapting to a more modern approach, while still holding true to fundamentals of the respective faith. The new denomination is attractive to many who are tired of the old ways.

@toddr13 Indeed. Although, I will admit that I'm personally biased against both Evangelical and Mormon theology, so there's that.
