Why did I have to buy a steel pipe ?

Why is only steel used for some drainage pipes but not plastic ?

I wanted plastic they said it wasn't durable or something about erosion.

Plastic can crush or deform. They use it with French drains ( shallow ) Depends really on the size and depth of the project .
