Women, how would you take it if a man gave you a valentine's gift?

Specifically if you've both been close for more than a decade, and it was pretty clear that everything was platonic.

Would it come off as a romantic advance?

If we’d been close for over a decade and it had always clearly lived in that safe, platonic lane, a Valentine’s gift would feel like a shift. Valentine’s Day isn’t neutral. It’s culturally loaded. So even if the gift itself were small or sweet, I would automatically wonder, Why now? What is this meant to signal?

It wouldn’t necessarily offend me. But it would absolutely make me reassess the dynamic.

I’d think it was a really nice gesture. I don’t romanticize Valentine’s Day or Valentine’s Day gifts. I think it’s something that can be celebrated between friends
@Jenny1234 Me too

Friends are allowed to give friends gifts. That by itself is not a big deal.

But being that the occasion is Singles Awareness Day, you must be careful. Make sure it is not a romantic gift (stay away from jewelry, etc).

@SinlessOnslaught Lol...
Piece of dead tree = paper
Pigment = ink

As in an actual printed card. 😉
@sarabee1995 I know but what are you saying

Valentines Day for most women is an open door 🚪
The right man could come along.
And even if they are taken..if they like the guy that one gift is significant. Trust me. I've seen it a thousand times. A woman's nature is underrated and a complex thing.☺

@SinlessOnslaught I'm saying that's when many are the most vulnerable.
@Zonuss Vulnerable? This is my friend

I'd take it as friendship.
@PatientlyWaiting25 A surprising amount of people seem to think V day gifts are strictly romantic.

No I'd think it was just sweet as long as it's not mushy.
@ScreamingFox I like this answer

Valentines day is all about romance - a gift on that day is saying you have some sort of romantic intentions towards the recipient
@Crusher69 Then my childhood friend was gay for me and my brothers.
@Crusher69 And plenty of people feel romantic for their mom I guess.
Crusher69 · 61-69, M
@SinlessOnslaught well - the context was a long term platonic relationship so i assumed it was not parent/child or childhood friend who must have had a crush on you 🤣
