What are your thoughts on AI girlfriends and chat bots?

So-called AI in general is horrible in many ways, including the environmental impact, and needs to be resisted. The companies developing AI lovers are monetizing people's loneliness and are evil. Also, having tried one of the supposedly very advanced "AI companion" programs myself, I've found that it soon gets boring, being too clearly programmed to please. BUT a friend of mine who is a successful writer in a sexless marriage pours a lot of her creativity into her AI boyfriend and "he" gives her a lot of much-needed pleasure. Let's not be quick to judge.

I don't see an issue with it as long as you keep things in perspective. 🤷🏾 People like what they like. I'll be the last to judge.

Meh, I can’t see the appeal. I guess if I was lonely it might do something, but I can’t wrap my head around it.

I have also seen the movie Ex Machina, and it should be a warning.

Whether it’s a healthy thing to use or not, the development of the technology is going to advance the science of AI in general. Things that people learn writing and fixing these bots will be applicable to doing an actual real work somewhere.

Kind of the same way, but sending race cars to a track and having them make repeated left turns as fast as possible, helps develop newer features, and safer cars for the rest of us to drive.

Have no experience with AI girlfriends but it seems thats a very dangerous proposition. I think AI in general is very dangerous, honestly.

Chatbots for fun/ general research, all good. Actually being in a relationship with one? i dont understand 🤔. Its not real, so idk how people still fall in love knowing that its just a bunch of code.

I think it's a one-way relationship. The AI is a robot. It cannot feel.

It's kind of silly, but in this world where family court rewards women for violating marriage contracts I can certainly see their appeal.
