We had a big break before we got back together and, technically, I'd be aligned with the date that we first got together, the date that we eventually got back together and also the date we got married!
But....the wife says that's greedy! Lol!
So what we do is celebrate each and every day together. Little things that we do for each other. They all add up.

I'd actually celebrate both... the first because it's the date you started going out together.
The second as a symbol of how far you've come as a couple. You faced whatever and broke up, but you were able to talk it through and see that you still loved each other enough to work through the rough times.
In my experience, it's important for us to take stock of how we've grown as a person within a relationship - and that's an example of that. Usually, when we celebrate anniversaries, we only tend to focus more on a dinner and doing something nice together rather than making an effort to remember and appreciate how much we have grown individually and as a couple.

Unless your married the number of years or the date are not as relevant especially to a man my wife after all these years remembers the date of our first date. In your case just say you known each other for 3 years

Keep the original, because it's not good to try to brush aside the struggles which all relationships go through. You would want to look back and see how things have progressed (or not progressed).

With my ex I would have gone to the original place and actually done what I should have done in the first place.

I would say its an off and on 3 yr relationship...
If you mean an anniversary date.

Whichever you both agree to… the original date is not bad if you two kept in touch which apparently you did why complicate things like is already gonna throw enough curve balls anyways lol don’t make this one :)

I would say it was 1 year 10 months.... until the incident. Then just let people decide whether to ask lol
