I think you should treat everyone politely (provided they are being polite to you).

Sure.
And we're all taught to be polite but that doesn't mean a man is owed a polite rejection in order for him not to react aggressively.
We're already teaching women to be polite. Let's start teaching men to accept rejection peacefully.
