I think they might do a lot of good for people with trust issues. They might have a lot of trauma and underlying fears regarding relationships, so this could be their way of learning to be close to people without the risk of being hurt or rejected.
The problem usually lies when one person develops feelings while the other doesn't, so that's definitely something to look out for. But otherwise I don't really see the harm. If it helps people meet their needs and build confidence in themselves, then I'm all for it.
