Words I'm sick of.

Narrative. I so sick of this word being used. Most of the time it's used to replace belief or idea.

Can we stop please?

Tired of hearing about how everything is "AI".
Humans apparently are not even interested in natural intelligence, why the big kick about artificial?

Or at work when they say "give a shout out", it is the code phrase for "kissing azz"
SW-User
@SW-User Humans will become obsolete..
Perhaps.
Elessar · 26-30, M
@CestManan It's the new "crypto"
CestManan · 46-50, F
@JimboSaturn This great advancement in technology and yeah, it is used to predict what someone will get from McDonald's. SMH

@SW-User AI is not perfection, I mean my gyod it took humanity 20+ years to even get self checkout machines working mostly okay. And vending machines STILL suck.
Narrative is not equivalent to belief or idea. It’s more of a way to “package or position” a situation in a way that you want others to believe…

The expression "grand narrative" is still important and relevant today.
Grand narrative or “master narrative” is a term introduced by French philosopher Jean-François Lyotard in his classic 1979 work The Postmodern Condition: A Report on Knowledge, in which Lyotard summed up a range of views which were being developed at the time, as a critique of the institutional and ideological forms of knowledge.
The "national character" of a people is, for example, a grand narrative. This involves the identification of people, ethnicity, and races according to specific, indomitable cultural characteristics.

@helenS I do believe that civilizations or nation states have narratives. But I find it's use recently illustrates how reality or facts seem ambiguous to people in this age. People have vastly different views of reality and the use of narrative implies to me that there is no objective reality (I'm aware this is highly debatable in a philosophical sense lol), and that any viewpoint is correct despite the facts. I also find it "gaslighting" (hehe) since people will refer to their opponent's viewpoint as a "narrative" instead of their opinion based on fact - this is not always the case.
With the growing amount of people living in virtual echo chambers, I fear that the concept of narrative instead of fact will continue to polarize our society.
Carla · 61-69, F
I use it because a narrative isn't always what those voicing it believe. It's often a story you tell to make others believe.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@Carla I guess I'm also sick of people assuming everyone else with a different opinion is telling a story to make others believe. I don't think everyone is trying to be deceptive, it's just toxic language.
Carla · 61-69, F
@JimboSaturn it's a toxic environment jimbo. If people weren't pushing narratives, people would not be called out for doing so.
phrases that get on my nerves........... "the new normal", "hot take", "fam", "on fleek"
@JimboSaturn i think it means good. i have a couple of teenagers. they often say dumb shit that makes my head hurt. LOL
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@SheCallsMeCrushDaddy I'll have to ask my daughter about that one.
CestManan · 46-50, F
@SheCallsMeCrushDaddy Assuming you are a child of the 80's, just start using some of the cliches we used to say.

OH won't they be so proud to hear, "Totally awesome" or "Radical!"
Oh and when they bring a lady friend over, say, "how is it going, dudette?"
Burnley123 · 41-45, M

Stuffy · 61-69, F
It’s not one word but please please people stop saying “spot on!”
Stuffy · 61-69, F
How about “spot on”. I can’t stand it!
Allelse · 36-40, M
What about agenda, my uncle uses that word whenever he's hating on the trannies.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@Allelse OH good one!
Some words just express the situation best. Some people have beliefs, others have "narratives" where they may or may not believe what they’re saying, but it sounds correct to them.
Lostpoet · M
Narrative should never be used in that way.
Nanori · F
"stop" ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
SkeetSkeet · 100+, F
Gaslighting
Renaci · 36-40
I hate the word faith. People either use it to mean trust and/or as some type of economic/trade system wherein if you have enough you can exchange it for answered prayers.
