The Shinning by Stephen King is a great book.

The movie was good too but the book really pulls you into the protagonist's madness. I remember feeling actual dread when reading it,that's why I won't read it again😂.

I feel like the book really dives more into how sentient the Overlook Hotel really is, which was the driving force behind Jack's descent. He already had dark tendencies, the hotel just nurtured those tendencies to full bloom.

@DearAmbellina2113 yes!

In the movie the existence of malevolent entities was left mostly ambiguous.

In the book it's a silent evil that slowly accrued over the years into something normally sinister, but outright dangerous to more psychically aware people.
