Having a similar problem at the moment. And as usual, it is a multiplicity of factors. Start with age, meds, and eyesight. I'm losing both stamina to stay awake and durance with the eyes. Add to it baseball, which competes for the limited time I do have. Furthermore I am involved in a volunteer oral history project which has me reading the memoirs and other books by a number of people who are potential narrators, which are interesting but some are pretty heavy sledding. Not poor writing; just thought provoking, which doesn't help the stamina and durance much. By the end of October when baseball ends, I'm trusting I will fall back into a more normal reading pattern. I may have to insert a reading for pleasure break as well for a jump start. I have several sitting there on the bedside table begging. Towles' latest -- a collection of short stories -- might be the ticket.
