do you read books that were adapted to a film you’ve seen?
I’m eager to read Lord of the Rings even though I’ve watched the movie dozens of times

Yep. Some books are actually better than the movie. [i]The Shining[/i], imo, is a prime example. The movie is excellent, don't get me wrong, but there's a tragic element to the character Jack that they completely left out of the movie that makes the novel even better, if you ask me.
As for [i]The Lord of the Rings,[/i] those are excellent and are just as good as the films. You'll probably find that there are lot of things that the movie did better and things the movie forsakes entirely and doesn't do any justice whatsoever. But if you enjoyed the movies, I'm sure you'll enjoy the books too.
