Top 9 Books of 2023

I read a ton of books this year (as usual) but these are my favorites of the year! I highly recommend anyone read them and I'm happy to go in depth on any that catch your eye either privately or here in the comments. I would've done a top 10 but actually my tenth was only an E-book 😅

Top tops of the year would have to be a toss up between Yellowface and Recursion 😊

They look Heavy!

I read a lot - for fiction it was:

The Future (Alderman) Should not be missed!
The Candy House (Egan)
The River (Heller)
The Trackers (Frazier)
Dark Matter (Crouch) !
The Stars are not Bells
Victory City (Rushdie)
Not sure when I read Crawdads, but definite favorite
The Iliad !

Finishing Heaven and Earth now - and Recursion is up next!

@fun4us2b They were heavy lol but us book nerds are strong since we're always carrying them around XD

Very nice, some of those have been on my to-rad list for a bit!

@SwiftieShutterbug Alright - I finished Recursion today - OMG that ending. I can see how some would hate the ending, but I thought it was perfect ....

Nice list.

I was about to post a picture with my list but it's just a kindle. :-(
SwiftieShutterbug · 31-35, F
@JovialMoose Fair point! I was mostly just teasing (though truthfully I fully admit to being a physical book snob XD ). Any form of reading is fantastic!
JovialMoose · 46-50, M
@SwiftieShutterbug I sadly upgraded my kindle to the scribe this winter because of the bigger screen.

I will say that I've expanded my reading horizons because of the kindle. I troll the free books and sales in different genres.
SwiftieShutterbug · 31-35, F
@JovialMoose The Scribe, huh? Fancy upgrade. Variety is the spice of reading life!
Gangstress · 41-45, F
The Drift and Hike were good ones too
And personal fave was Square of sevens
Happy reading 📚
SwiftieShutterbug · 31-35, F
@Gangstress The Drift was solid! That post-apocalyptic survival with a side of social commentary? Right up my alley. I am VERY disappointed I didn't get to read The Square of Sevens it sounds so good, but I'm sure I'll get to it!
Gangstress · 41-45, F
@SwiftieShutterbug i hope you get to read it soon

Happy new year

Not a big reader but love audio books.
Where the crawdads sing is a great book.
Fungirlmmm · 51-55, F
@Teslin I love driving down the road listening to my books.
Teslin · M
Absolutely @Fungirlmmm.
I use to drive 2 hours a day. Great way to pass the time.
Fungirlmmm · 51-55, F
@Teslin perfect
ronisme1 · 61-69, M
When do you find the time?
SwiftieShutterbug · 31-35, F
@ronisme1 Just have no social life like me 🤪
ronisme1 · 61-69, M
@SwiftieShutterbug nothing wrong with that. You travel by books and that keeps you busy
SwiftieShutterbug · 31-35, F
@ronisme1 That's true, 99% of the time I'd definitely rather be reading a book than not reading one!
Coletracer · M
Don't forget to read the one I wrote. Would love to hear your take on it!

Where the crawdads sing 👍🏻
SwiftieShutterbug · 31-35, F
@SW-User I was bit late to the party on that one I'll admit but I kicked myself for waiting so long when I realized how fantastic it was
SW-User
@SwiftieShutterbug Snap! Although I did prefer the movie. The emotion came across more on the screen than in the book, strangely

Might add Recursion to my list
SwiftieShutterbug · 31-35, F
@OldBrit Do it!
OldBrit · 61-69, M
@SwiftieShutterbug thanks for the tip

I just read The Drift by CJ Tudor I recommend that.
mayguy · 46-50, M
First and foremost, HAPPY 2024!!!
🎆🎇🎊🎉🥂😜

Secondly, no femme can rock a white sweater like you. 👏👏👏👏👏

'tis and extraordinary list to be certain and I'm familiar with most of those tomes. Discussion of which shall begin in pm at your leisure, of course 😁

Hmm....to begin, what did you think of the (immensely popular) F-Mac's 2 books topping your pile?
novaguy2u · 70-79, M
Good to see someone who likes "hard copy" books.
fun4us2b · M
Nice selection!
Almost any reading should be praised and encouraged.
Subsequently, I will post the recent books I read, which is admittedly an idiosyncratic group, but all of which I would recommend.
what did you like about each? recursion in particular.
SwiftieShutterbug · 31-35, F
@stound By the way I'm getting to this just need a bit!
SwiftieShutterbug · 31-35, F
@stound Starting with Recursion, since you asked first, - time loops, false memories, reality glitches - Crouch threw everything at the wall, and somehow, it all stuck. The tension is masterful, every jump forward, every revelation, my heart was in my throat. Not for the faint of mind, but for those who crave a mental workout.
matthewjames · 18-21, M
I like comic books :)

Krakauers a good author but his liberal bias is usually apparent
