1. Hagseed - Margaret Atwood - I was impressed by the author's parallel of Shakespeare's "The Tempest" in modern day.

2. Frank McCourt

3. Julian Barnes

4. “I think the devil doesn't exist, but man has created him, he has created him in his own image and likeness.”

1. Nation, by Terry Pratchett. It was a departure from his usual Disk World stuff, but the themes and characters were great. I didnt want it to end.

2. Either Pratchett or Ray Bradbury. They both have a special place in my heart.

3. William Gibson and Neil Gaiman equally.

4. "When the past is always with you, it may as well be present; and if it is present, it will be future as well." -William Gibson, Neuromancer.

5. Oh man, I dont even know. I'd like to say Death of the Endless from the Sandman series, but I'm probably much more basic than her. 😅

1. Focaults's Pendulum. I didn't like it much and was just glad when it was over.
2. Kurt Vonnegut.
3. John Irving.
4. His heart beat faster and faster as Daisy’s white face came up to his own. He knew that when he kissed this girl, and forever wed his unutterable visions to her perishable breath, his mind would never romp again like the mind of God. So he waited, listening for a moment longer to the tuning-fork that had been struck upon a star. Then he kissed her. At his lips’ touch she blossomed for him like a flower and the incarnation was complete.
5. Holden Caulfield, or Yossarian.
MayaHope · 41-45, F
Focault has always hurt my brain a little. Where’s the quote from? I like it @jomsim
jomsim · 26-30, M
@MayaHope Glad it's not just me. I always wonder if I'm missing something when I dislike a book that most people rate. Quote is from The Great Gatsby.
MayaHope · 41-45, F

My son loves Stephen King too though I did get in trouble at his school for allowing him to read Stephen King @MalteseFalconPunch
ScrewThisImDone · 26-30, F
I'm reading The Woman in White at the moment. It's good, but I wish the author had spent more time telling the story and less time on having his characters ramble.

Um, I guess Author Conan Doyle? I haven't read too many stories by dead authors.

Kerri Maniscalo, her Stalking Jack the Ripper series is incredible

"How did you see that, Holmes?" "Because I was looking for it."

Er, Wanda Petronski from The Hundred Dresses? I'm not sure.
MayaHope · 41-45, F
I love your quote... it says more than it seems. I’m trying to write a book I think I let myself ramble though! @ScrewThisImDone
ScrewThisImDone · 26-30, F
That's a common thing with newer authors, I certainly did that with my first book.

I am in truth the Steppenwolf that I often call myself; that beast astray that finds neither home nor joy nor nourishment in a world that is strange and incomprehensible to him.

and for your last question..it's harry haller the main protagonist of the steppenwolf.
MayaHope · 41-45, F
I had not heard of the Steppenwolf but am intrigued. Does that make me seem ignorant? I love the vastness of literature and don't read enough @Dancingxghost
Dancingxghost · 36-40, M
@MayaHope not at all actually a few have heard of the novel or even the author.. herman hess..it's a german author. but the translations are really ok nowadays.

1. 11/22/63 (Stephen King). The feeling that even horrible things that happen can have a purpose

2. Phillip K. Dick and Kurt Vonnegut

3. Paul Dorian or Stephen King

4. Artistic talent is far more common than the talent to nurture artistic talent. Any parent with a hard hand can crush it, but to nurture it is much more difficult.

5. Mike Bowditch from Paul Dorian's novels. His ethics on the outdoors and conservation are very close to mine.

1) Last book was Love Lucy. 2&3) I do not have a favorite author (dead or alive) as I read all genres of books that interests me! 4) My recent favorite quote from a book is, “When you don’t know what to do, do nothing, but when you’ve turned it around every way you can and know what you want to do, go through the mountain to do it”. 5) No favorite characters.
MayaHope · 41-45, F
I like the openness of your response. After asking about favourite living authors I realised I could not name one because I like to read whatever takes my fancy! Aren’t we lucky to have all these options to get lost in someone’s imagination @SW-User
