Not much about the modern day Maori, I know about about what the Maori's were up to before Cook showed up.

@xCoinx yeah! A mere was just one of the weaponry but it was definitely effective at cracking bone.
My favourite has to be the taiaha which is a spear of sorts it has its own unique combat style and is often used in traditional greetings

@BlackHeart No it was the Hawaiians when he first showed up it was their season of Lono and when he tried to return to the island shortly after leaving it was their season of Makahiki and I dunno this caused some confusion about how Cook should be treated is he was now the god Makahiki

Well I don't 'know' anything I just have a series of things I've heard. Distant genetic origins possibly Korea, mixed with Islanders along route. Live in the land of the long white cloud. The Hei Tiki done in green stone represents the first man. Made a treaty with the 'white man.' Made ceremonial poles and meeting halls. Culture was reasonably warlike and they practiced cannibalism. Pretty limited really.

@SW-User possibly japanese lol there are similarities in the languages.. but yes predominantly polynesian roots linked mainly to rarotonga. The treaty wasnt exactly translated accurately so there are still disputes to this day 😂 and yes maori ate the hearts of their enemies because they believed it gave them courage, and the brains for their knowledge.. and their ummm... penises... for their ummm... yeah...

little to nothing. I should probably know something considering what I study but it's never come up because most of the discussions I'm a part of are US-centric.

I studied a bit of sociology, its an interesting field and extremely diverse almost to the point where my brain couldnt comprehend it 😂 then again I'm not exactly an intellect lol

@BlackHeart no I get it, it gets confusing sometimes because everything has to be broad when you have a sample size of one :/
