A book/books you hate even tho everyone seems to love it?

I can't stand Pride and Prejudice. I've had all kinds of reactions from shock to 'you just don't understand it". But I do understand it. I understand that it's overrated and not even her best work by a long shot.

So what books do people seem to worship that you can't stand or just didn't like?

WHY miss Ella you do amuse me!*simpers and Shakes ringlets*
Actually I agree with you ..my own personal unfavourite is The Hobbit 😴what a borefest
@SW-User I FORGOT HOW MUCH I HATED THE HOBBIT! Tolkien was long winded in the Rings series but you at least got a decent story out of sticking with it. Hobbit was just boring.

@EllaDisenchanted 😨 blasphemy!
@Quizzical Nope nope nope! Couldn't stand it. The Rings, I love. Even Simarillion. But The Hobbit was just chloroform in print.
NorthernRoses · 26-30, F
The "50 shades" triology or whatever it is.

It's horribly written, and whoever wrote it clearly doesn't know a single thing about BDSM other than "ooh hurty". Haaate those.
NorthernRoses · 26-30, F
@EllaDisenchanted Oh man, that's the worst. Did you toughen through it, or did you decide it wasn't worth it?
TexChik · F
@NorthernRoses yes I thought those were barely worth reading , much less making movies about .
@NorthernRoses It was the book that finally convinced me, after all these years, that it's ok to not finish a book I don't enjoy and it's no worth the guilt over admitting you hate it.

@SW-User Fuck yeah m8! Just cuz he's got the prose of his words, doesn't make it any less boring.
@SW-User Agreed there! The point of the narrative was spot on. But the walk there was horrid.
twistedrope · 26-30, M
@EllaDisenchanted Still have no idea right? Of what the message in Russian was suppose to be that got too much focus. Or why the base was even attacked. ...Or.. That it was being attacked. It got really screwy near the end.
MrsKatherineArch · 41-45, F
"Paradise Lost" - John Milton

"The Great Gatsby" - F. Scott Fitzgerald

"To Kill A Mockingbird" - Harper Lee

"On The Road" - Jack Kerouac

@EllaDisenchanted I can agree that it is a departure for him. It isn't my favorite of his (Oliver Twist, David Copperfield, Bleak House).
@MrsKatherineArch loved oliver and bleak house! christmas carol is still my favorite. but two cities can take a long walk on a short pier.
MrsKatherineArch · 41-45, F
@EllaDisenchanted l put "A Christmas Carol" in its own category, simply because of its theme of redemption.

The Hobbit. Thinking the third time might be the charm, I tried again this spring. No go. I don't necessarily 'hate' it. But I left it at the little library without regret. Hopefully someone else enjoys it.

Anything by John Steinbeck, had to read in high school and came close to turning me off reading.
twistedrope · 26-30, M
Great Expectations & 1984. Both are boring as hell, difficult to read without cringing at the characters and each story has a good beginning that completely disintegrates in the middle and end.

@twistedrope oh charles dickens can also bite me

Dan Brown. One good book (Deception Point) all the rest utter tosh... and stupidly I end up reading them every time as they get great reviews etc.

Hillary Mantel.... gibberish. Can't understand why won so many awards.

E L James. Laughable
