A book/books you hate even tho everyone seems to love it?

I can't stand Pride and Prejudice. I've had all kinds of reactions from shock to 'you just don't understand it". But I do understand it. I understand that it's overrated and not even her best work by a long shot.

So what books do people seem to worship that you can't stand or just didn't like?

"Paradise Lost" - John Milton

"The Great Gatsby" - F. Scott Fitzgerald

"To Kill A Mockingbird" - Harper Lee

"On The Road" - Jack Kerouac
@MrsKatherineArch Now I did like Mockingbird myself, but that's because I read it when I was younger, I think. Before a teacher or professor could ruin it with over-interpretation

@EllaDisenchanted I teach Literature, and only one of these is on my syllabus. (Milton). I steer discussion, but try to keep my opinion to myself. Let's just say that Milton is painful for everyone
@MrsKatherineArch Luckily we didn't have to do Milton because the books didn't get shipped. We wound up with Tale of Two Cities. Already hated its guts by that time so just as bad.

@EllaDisenchanted I love Charles Dickens, so I'll have to disagree. But the thing about his work is you really have to consider the society he grew up in. That's true of most books of course, but Dickens portrayal quickly dismisses any romantic notions of his time.
@MrsKatherineArch Funny thing is I also like Dickens a lot. But there's something about Two Cities that just...just doesn't have the Dickens feel. It's a little too cheesey and without personality.

@EllaDisenchanted I can agree that it is a departure for him. It isn't my favorite of his (Oliver Twist, David Copperfield, Bleak House).
@MrsKatherineArch loved oliver and bleak house! christmas carol is still my favorite. but two cities can take a long walk on a short pier.

@EllaDisenchanted l put "A Christmas Carol" in its own category, simply because of its theme of redemption.
