They always say never to bring a knife to a gunfight. But the Vietcong brought sticks and stones to a gunfight, and they won.

Military speaking... that's not correct at all.

@Stellen They utilized booby traps made from sharpened sticks and rocks, pits of bamboo shards, tiger traps, stuff like that.

I know. I'm aware. But we didn't leave because we couldn't handle their boobytraps.

We left because the juice wasn't worth the squeeze. An the American public was so largely against the conflict.

At no point were we literally beaten out of the country by force.

@Stellen The Americans were fighting a losing battle. The only way to win the war would be to kill off almost all the Vietnamese people. Which was possible, but it would have cost a ridiculous number of American lives and money. It did cost a ridiculous amount of American lives and money. The US was beaten partially out by force, partially from the incredible backlash against the war, and partially by realizing there was no clear way of winning since the enemy was communism, and you can't directly fight an idea.

Yes. Again we left because the juice wasn't worth the squeeze.

I don't disagree here with you as much as I thought I might. But to say the Vietcong won with sticks an stones is over simplifying a complex situation. An at least to me, would lead people to assume the USA got beat up by a bunch of Ewoks.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@Stellen Because they did get beat by a bunch of Ewoks. I mean, technically they did. The US lost the war and North Vietnam won. You're right, there's a lot more that goes into it than just that, but still.
