I Have Random Thoughts

In our longing for more we often forget how blessed we truly are, we forget how to appreciate all the good in our lives. We get so carried away with that constant search for happiness, that we overlook the simple joys that can be found in little things.
Happiness is not that elusive thing in the future we will feel when we land that dream job, find that perfect relationship, or whatever else we're longing for. Happiness is in the smile of a child, it's that ray of sunshine piercing the clouds, it's in the beauty of that flower growing on the side of the road. Happiness is in the warmth of a friend's hug, the random kindness of a stranger, that first sip of water when you're thirsty, the sweetness of a dessert.... It's all the little things we often take for granted.
Happiness is first and foremost an attitude. It's not some fleeting emotion that a lucky few experience. It's a choice we make. We can choose to focus on the good in our lives, or we can whine about all that is missing. We can all find in our lives reasons to smile and reasons to weep, and ultimately our happiness lies within us. Your happiness is up to you.
We need to stop pining for what can't be, stop longing for more. We need to learn to live in the moment more, count our blessings and be thankful for all the wonderful people in our lives. Happiness can only come from within.

Joy in simplicity. I can understand that well. We really do strive for more more more when if we stop to think happiness might just be sitting untouched right in front of us.

@Fungirlmmm and too often it's only when we look back that we realize how good we had it, but we were too focused on the negative to see it.

@diablesse amen. I was thinking about this from a friendship standpoint last night. How many people had turned out to disappoint me while there were others that were genuine. I just never took the time to look deeper into them. And going back in some cases is not an option.

@Fungirlmmm As the saying goes, "We live, we learn". As we become older and wiser, we choose friends with more substance and sincerity. I've been guilty of the same, but am much more selective in my friendships now.
