Well where I am, it is Sept 24th right now. I imagine it is still Sept 23rd in some part of the world so you still might have time.

Kids at a Jewish summer camp decided to do their own experiment, like you read about, on whether prayer works. They planted two rows of beans side by side and throughout the summer prayed for one row to grow. Result: the row of beans not being prayed for flourished, and the row that was prayed for withered. Conclusion: God definitely hears prayers AND does not like to be pushed around.
