I Have Random Thoughts

Love or true purpose - no one ever finds real happiness without one or the other, and the latter is usually a poor substitute for the former.
what you wrote reminded me of a quote by Robert Frost. I thought you might like it.
"Only where love and need are one,
And the work is play for mortal stakes,
Is the deed ever really done
For Heaven and the future's sakes."
Two Tramps in Mudtime

I love the second line - the juxtaposition of the lightness of play with the heaviness of mortal stakes.
@BlueDiver: I think he must have been a kind of magician with words.

Each ones purpose is to have the love of self.
When love of self is in place, then we seek and stand in life from a place of full. To want love, one needs to be loveable first, to be able then to give and receive in return.

In my experience, loving yourself makes it easier to love others, but being loved by others also makes it easier to love yourself - and either one can be used as an escape or a substitute to avoid building the other in your life.
