During 2021, I worked the night shift up until about November.
One of the weirdest years I ever had. I had these 12 hour shifts over the weekends, 3-4 days, every other week. So sometimes only 36 hrs per week, sometimes 48. It balanced out over two weeks. By the third or fourth day my brain was pudding and I was just a zombie plodding along to do my thing. Stepping in alcohol and so forth with my steel toed boots. By the end in November there were major problems with production and we started being sent home early and I was getting deeply frustrated by the inconsistency so I ended up leaving for something else.
But the night shift life resulted in me being awake at night all the time, cause there wasn't enough time on my off days to re-adjust to day hours. And I had plenty of days off in between, so I would end up drinking a lot before the whole thing started up again on the weekend. Once I got out of the night shift and the weekend shifts, a lot of my habits went back to normal.
I wrote down some of my thoughts in a small black pocket-sized notebook during those shifts and I should go find out where I put that.
