FORASMUCH as it hath pleased the Almighty God by the wise disposition of his divine providence so to Order and dispose of things that we the Inhabitants and Residents of these lands now cohabiting and dwelling in and upon the land, it's streams, lakes, rivers,
and Ocean coastlines, islands, bays, valleys, mountains, plains upon, withn and below or above, and the other Lands thereunto and joining; And well knowing where a people are gathered together the word of God requires that to maintain the peace and union of such a people there should be an orderly and decent Government established according to God, to order and dispose of the affrays of the people at all seasons as occasion shall require; do therefore associate and connive ourselves to be as one Public State and contiguous states; and do, for ourselves, our heirs and successors and such as shall be adjoined to us at any time hereafter, enter into combination and confederation to gather nationally, to maintain and pressure the liberty and purity of the gospel of our Lord Jesus which we now profess, as also the discipline of our families, or works, our worships and traditions, which according to the truth of which gospel has been and will be practised amongst vs; As also in our Civil Affairs
to be guided and governed according to such Laws, Rules, Orders and decrees as ordered & decreed, as followeth the rights granted by nature and the devine creator's God above all, the unseen, ever present, all powerful God of all science and all nature and this universe, with thye rightful limits imposed upon that government of the people, by the people, and for the people, now and here to fore, these provisions as followeth:
