Here's a prediction for the social care sector in 2021.....Mass resignations and everybody from Nurses to care staff walking away

Especially after this verdict today from the UK Supreme Court ruling in favour of employers with regard to when 'Sleep-in' carers should be paid their hourly rate rather than the now decrepit 'Sleep-in allowance payment' of £40.

Siding with employers is one thing. But when 'wealthy' charitable institutions who have been allowed to take over more and more care services in the UK since 1983 are saying if approved it might bankrupt some providers......

War is on the way !

Unfortunately the British public doesn't see certain areas of public health as the private sector. Care homes, dental and opticians are all private companies that hold NHS contracts. At a very high price. So they can be anything from 50k to 1.8million if not more. The staff and the materials needed to carry out the job are supposed to be carried out under this NHS fund.
But like all private companies they squeeze as much of that money as they can to keep it back for themselves. Meaning the staff are often short changed and the clients are not getting the best...
In order for this to change it would require a lot of whistle blowing. But where staff are treated so poorly and how well connected these industries tend to be people remain quiet and consequently these business owners continue to rip everyone off.
People have been complaining about the 6k to test and trace recently but have they considered the constant drain on the NHS that is what I listed above where you still end up having to pay a private fee for the most crucial part of the treatment? (glasses, a better filling or denture or live in home)

@Picklebobble2 😳 I really don't like whats happening to this country. they won't pay correctly so the british public won't take on the jobs

@Peppa So they hire other companies to take on the roles government should take responsibility for; who in turn hire people from poorer countries at lower rates and keep more of the money charged for themselves !

@Picklebobble2 precisely and exactly what is happening at my work place now. Out of 8 of us 5 are trainees

While certain places in the world are calling in all trained nurses, all expenses paid along with triple salary.

@SW-User One of the reasons i quit working for Local Authorities was because i was working my hours, then covering for sickness or staff shortage due to annual leave at time-and-a-half (when they could afford it) and because staffing levels were so bad, i'd be working with Agency Staff earning almost TWICE what i was !!

@Picklebobble2 Yeah, I have never understood why anyone would want to work for the Local Authorities. They all seem miserable too. (Sorry!)

@SW-User It was on the cards that more and more services were going to be given to the private sector, even when i started back in '83.

But to have gone through the private sector (they gave it up because they couldn't make any money out of it) and allowed 'charities' to now make up something like 40% of ALL care services provided, for them to now turn around and say pay increases even for disturbed sleep-in duty (specified when you sign your contract of employment for residential settings) would bankrupt them........Why would anybody want to work for local authorities ?
Maybe that's the plan !
If local authorities don't hire people they no longer have to be responsible for any more sick pay or pension rights !
£40 is more than I've had for sixteen years of caring... 🤷‍♀️
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@HootyTheNightOwl Yeah carers save governments a fortune and should be entitled to a salary and pension rights let alone a living wage !
@Picklebobble2 I'll never get to retire when I'm old and past it. I don't have enough pension credits... and my body is too knackered to work a traditional job these days as well.

I guess that I'll be ending my days making stuff to sell eventually.
