Was rap everywhere in the 90s US?

It never really took off here, like you got the likes of Eminem, Dre, Wu Tang clan, 50 cent, Biggie, Tupac, Mobb Deep, The Game and Cyprus Hill... The underground stuff never reached it here around that time. Like there is a lot I'm only hearing for the first time still
