I'm 55 and can tell you it's always difficult to earn enough of it !
Employers have been having a good time for the last ten years paying wages at too low a rate to keep pace with inflation.
Same with landlords charging rent.
Time was all you had to worry about was paying your rent; food and local taxes.
Not anymore.
Expenses for food; heat; electricity; gas; water; work travel expenses; mobile phone (which many employers insist you have)insurances; and other expenses (if you run a vehicle; if you own a pet; if you have a parent or children to take care of etc) eat through whatever you earn pretty quickly.
