I Have Random Thoughts

So I was thinking about how names are shortened. I.e. Will for William. Dick for Richard. Carl for Carlos.

And I get how you get Nick from Nichcolas.
But then why isn’t it spelled Nic? THERES “k” in Nichcolas.
