When there are so many injustices in the world, why are some people so hung up about which gender you are in love with?

Most everyone I know, myself included, don't give a rat's ass who, what, or which gender someone else is in love with.
It's the constant referring to it that gets annoying, and causes people to say things like, "Would you please shut the fuck up?!"
