I Have Random Thoughts

I don't like chips (fries). I don't like the taste, the feel of them in my mouth when eating them (so many times, they turn mushy, which makes me retch, but worse of all,,,the SMELL! Makes me feel queasy. You will not get me to even walk past a fish and chip shop in the street...not without me feeling very ill! If I'm eating out, I ask for rice or salad instead

I can’t remember if I had them when I visited the UK. I love them in the U.S. but don’t eat them very often.

How are they cooked in the US?
@jackieash Depends. One of the few places I go, Five Guys, prepares theirs in peanut oil. When I cook them at home I use light olive oil.

@bijouxbroussard You really shouldn’t use olive oil for deep frying - much better to use Sunflower or Rapeseed oil.
@MissTaken Why not olive oil ? I don’t fry food very often. I use it for sautés.

@MissTaken Is that so even with light olive oil ? I do have sunflower oil, too—next time I’ll use that for fries.

@bijouxbroussard Olive oil is Olive oil even if they call it light. If you don’t fry things very often it’s unlikely to cause you issues but do try sunflower oil 🙂
