I call it a mental block. I speak a question into the void like "what was the name of that guy again, you know that one who took refuge in the embasy of Equador to escape the authorities who were out to get him over the activities of Wikileaks", and then forget it. Trying hard to remember only makes the mental block worse. An hour or two, maybe a day or two later the answer just pops into my head "Julian Assange". The subconscious process works better when it is not pressured to perform. As soon as the name comes to me I speak it out loud. Once I hear myself say it I rarely forget it again.

its names for me i see some one i knew from years ago and cant remember where i know them from or there names. Then latter i will remember and wish i had talked to them lol

Similar sort of thing today. I was watching 'Casualty'when Duffy went for a memory test when the tv was turned off as we had visitors arriving. Later I couldn't remember what we had been watching ! Duffy 1 Me 0 😂

Oh yes - been there! It happened to me recently when two or three of us in conversation couldn't remember the relevant name - then it came to me about half an hour later.

Been there on the crowded train too, recently - but to her credit the guard apologised over the PA for the train having 4 instead of its normal 5 coaches.
