Also, far too many people fail to learn to become self-aware and see how they are contributing to the situations they find themselves in. Like you said, they blame others for their misery. As long as people keep blaming others, they will keep making the same mistakes and finding themselves in the same situations, time and again. What they need to realize is that blaming others actually robs them of their own power.
When we start to see our own part in creating the drama and the situations we find ourselves in, and become more aware of the motivations, the fears, the needs, and the desires behind our actions, then we can finally begin to take some control. Both the opportunistic scum and their victims could benefit from this. Sadly the scum probably never will. They'll always keep blaming others, and there will always be those who will side with them and enable them. (sigh)
