It is not so much multi tasking abilities as it is different tasks become more important at different times. Your eyes just don't want to leave your forward looking view to glance at the dash. The faster you go the less time you have to look elsewhere, eventually you go so fast that the time you can afford to spend away from looking where you are going to go reaches near zero.
