I'm not American and I may not know much about American history, but it's a little sad that people are celebrating a movement that they know nothing about or what the civil war was really about.

It’s sad people don’t understand what the civil war was about.

[@MrBrownston] Let me clarify. I am Black no way in hell I am for slavery. My Uncles were killed in the 70s by some klan members for talking to white women.

It may be a piece of shit rag to you that's ok you have a right to your opinion I served in the service defending your right along with the rights of everyone else as long as they don't tread on others rights. Sorry doesn't bring your uncles back but I am sorry.the klan is a piece of shit no doubt. The flags in my opinion are a reminder of history . We need to remember history the good, the bad and learn from it. If we are blind to history we are bound to repeat it.and i for one don't want to repeat the horrible parts of history .I'm proud to be an American not proud of all that has happened in the past ( history), sorry for my babbling on @AshaKenyatta

@Repete Your "We need to remember history the good, the bad and learn from it" statement is complete utter nonsense. If we need to remember history the good and the bad then why isn't the bad taught in schools? Why are you people erasing slavery from in Texas history books? Some of the worst atrocities done unto black people like the Elaine Massacre, the Tulsa Riots, and Devil's Punchbowl are not taught? And you people wonder why this country is going to shit
Same here. Even if they don’t believe they are racists, they’re celebrating a racist legacy. Which amounts to the same thing.

@bijouxbroussard What's really sad is that a lot of them don't see how ironic the whole "preserve our history" argument is
@AshaKenyatta Indeed. And these are often the same folks who say, when black people want to discuss history, “can’t you people forget about it ?”
The desire to hang onto that flag (which only exists because part of the country seceded and went to war to preserve an economy based upon owning other human beings) proves they don’t want to forget.
They just want it remembered like “Gone With The Wind”. They want us to think of it that way, too.
And that’s just not reasonable.
