Some compliments aren’t compliments

My best friend and I always hear people tell us we look good for our age. That’s a back handed compliment! ( we really don’t like the phrase for our age !). Sorry so insulting.

Yes I get this any time I get carded and I know they don't really realize it's a back handed compliment. I usually just say ya I know I am old
