2020 The year of the mask.

To say this year has had a profound effect on us is an understatement. For today’s youth this was their defining moment. Defining moments have been scattered throughout history. We have all had them. The depression, the attack of Peal Harbor, World War I and II, the Cuban missile crisis, the Kennedy assassination (both brothers), the Vietnam War, assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. The 9/11 attack of the Trade Center and the Pentagon and now the 2020 Pandemic.

I am not going to compare the defining moments, each had it own emotional toll. Some lasted for many years and saw lots of death and destruction, but the thing to remember about all of those moments we emerged stronger and more united after and I hope this one is no exception. All of the defining moments caused us fear and despair but eventually we recovered as a stronger version of ourselves.

I can imagine when Lincoln stood at Gettysburg to give the address after the battle with the stench of death still in the air. He must have had a heavy heart, with brother against brother dying and bleeding across the land to preserve what the believed in.

This pandemic won’t be our last defining moment, there will be another just down the road. It will test us just as this one has, we just have to make sure we are ready for the task.

I just hope there are no more defining moments until after I’m dead and gone. I’ve had enough. I’m ready for some boredom!
