There is this drug Remedisivir and it's been tested all over the World for corona and they are launching it everywhere to treat the patients.
Do you guys think it will bring down the mortality rate?
P.S should have framed the question in a better way.
Here's a little detail...
Remdesivir doesn’t cure coronavirus. But the experimental drug, which may speed up recovery from a COVID-19 infection, is currently the best treatment we have against a virus that’s on a global rampage.

Late last week, the FDA authorized emergency use of the antiviral drug. The move came on the heels of preliminary results from a clinical trial that found patients treated with remdesivir had a 31 percent faster recovery than those who received a placebo. Average recovery was shortened to 11 days from 15 days, and the drug also slightly decreased the likelihood of dying from COVID-19.

“Although a 31 percent improvement doesn’t seem like a knockout 100 percent, it is a very important proof of concept because what it has proven is that a drug can block this virus,” Anthony Fauci told reporters at a White House meeting announcing the findings. Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, also likened the finding to discovering the first modestly effective antiviral treatment for HIV decades ago.
From Discover magazine
It's said to have worked in trial(s).

Severely ill patients recovering, going home.

It's tentative good news.

@Mamapolo2016 That's what I have read too
Dlrannie · 31-35, F
Well it costs around $3,200 for a course of treatment and so far is not considered any more effective than deximethasone that costs $7 for a course of treatment from what I hear
Gettingthere · 26-30, F
@Dlrannie but doesn't government take care of the treatment?
I guess the medicine should be provided at a subsidised rate
Dlrannie · 31-35, F
@Gettingthere I have no idea how the cost is being covered in the US as the health system is not state controlled but insurance driven.
goldenorchid · 46-50, F
It's not new and it's not a cure for covid,it helps serious cases to breathe, nothing more.
yes used appropriately it does save lives.
Gettingthere · 26-30, F
@goldenorchid there isn't a cure, people just recover
goldenorchid · 46-50, F
@Gettingthere mostly.
assemblingaknob · 26-30, F
I've heard about US using it. Not being used in my country. I think it's expensive
..but my sister said research articles that she read about it showed hopeful results.
But like... How does it work tho can someone educate me please
assemblingaknob · 26-30, F
@Gettingthere 😭 You sending me smart people stuff to read when I got an entirety of two measly brain cells...fine 🙄
Gettingthere · 26-30, F
@assemblingaknob Well, it has been said that it's effective.
We will get the numbers in 15 days I guess
assemblingaknob · 26-30, F
@Gettingthere I made some effort and read it 😁 thank you for sending the link 🤗💟
But now I need a snack 🤭

$3,120 per patient. Good luck getting it, especially considering the U.S. has allocated all the available stocks for the next three months.
HairbrushDiva · 31-35, F
This is the first I've heard of it. I'd like to say it works but I don't know yet. I don't want to give people false hopes.
HairbrushDiva · 31-35, F
@Gettingthere I am not a dude. Are you OK?
Gettingthere · 26-30, F
@HairbrushDiva I meant it in a unisexual way. Sorry.
HairbrushDiva · 31-35, F
@Gettingthere It's not a unisexual word where I come from.
So the Pooh poohed HCQ. To push the much more expensive big pharmaceutical version?

🤔
Gettingthere · 26-30, F
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout this one is gonna be solely used to treat Covid, as far as I know
@Gettingthere uh huh.. so we’re going with the $100 pill not the 10cent pill?

Someone gets a win either way 👍
Elessar · 26-30, M
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout HCQ is being used here since February, yet we had 30k+ deaths, I'd say it's far from being a cure.
R5000 · 41-45, M
Yes. SW is full of experts that definitely won't get this one wrong

@BobGrant45 Do you have a link for that source ? The racist right wing have their own reasons for helping this virus spread, as it tends to especially affect people of color adversely—if we’re trading conspiracy theories. Genocide by the racist right makes as much sense as any of it—and there’s a precedent.

@BobGrant45 Review our posts. I simply posted a quote from the FDA’s site, whereupon you replied:
leftists repeating the false information for political reasons.
You introduced the politics, I didn’t.
But typically, while people like you can dish it out, you can’t take it. I did not insult you, unless you personally do support the spread of this disease and the genocide of people of color. If so, then I will assume you are a racist scumbag like our current president, who has pretty much said that he values dead racists over than black lives.
