Emotionally,we are not that well equipped to judge the threat of a situation successfully . So we either overestimate or underestimated the unknown,depending on many enviromental factors. At this point ,however,underestimating the disease would be idiotic indeed.

I think you summarized at the very least the process that the leadership of the US went through If not the whole world.
It has been tragic how they let people down in the US and then try to cover their tracks with denial.

And in our culture,as harsh as it might sound,we actually value individualism more than the general good,in contrast to theocratic and authoritarian governments of the east. Which is why the quarantine has been much more successful. No conspiracy about the chinese. Strict regulations and a population with a strong people-ethos. It has exposed a moral crisis of the west. As well as an intellectual one 🙈

I would agree that there comes a time when the people need to respond to the alert as in the Revolutionary War with Paul Revere “The British are coming!” Only this time someone should have heralded the coming of the virus louder than the President’s denial. I am afraid of the loss of life in the millions because politics interfered.
