It's not necessary to believe in God to be a good person.

@Bushranger Sorry, I did not get a notification of a reply. I would have answered sooner. Anyway...

Though many people do good deeds and lead a good life, those things do not make us good people. There is no one who is truly righteous. We all in some capacity do wrong. So pure goodness is humanly impossible. That is why Jesus made that statement. Because Jesus is purely good. He is more than human. I realize you might not accept that, but that is Christian belief.

@SW-User I didn't actually say that someone could be perfect, I accept what you say in that regard. Since we all have the capacity to do wrong, a person who makes the effort to do the right thing is, by definition a good person. Whether that is because of a religious belief or a secular one makes no difference. You follow a path based on your beliefs, I follow a path based on mine. Maybe the they will never cross, but that doesn't matter.
