Is cringe just another word for shame or embarrassment?

I tried roleplaying the other day, but I could barely do it. It seems fun and like a nice release, but it felt so cringe the whole time I was doing it. Just trying to figure out how to shut off the part of the brain that says, "This is weird". Because I could really enjoy myself. It's free entertainment😜
