greenmountaingal Yea ... I attended a funeral a few years back of the husband of one of my wife's friends He was about 85 or so and except for us and the now widow and a few family members there was just the military rifle team and honor guard. The honor guard made up half of the graveside crowd.
By 85, 60%+ of his old friends and relatives had probably passed away, and many of those still alive were challenged to just stay alive. He'd left his old workplace 20 years earlier and long since been forgotten.
Military service means that you will still be remembered and honored 50+ years later. And thanked for your service.
