I Have a Question

Does anyone else find it rude and frustrating when you go into a shop and the staff behind the till are either having a private conversation among themselves or are on their mobiles taking a personal call, all the while knowing that if you did something as inconsiderate as that when approaching the till they will look at you with such disdain that it makes you believe they think you're the worst human to ever live?

Can you hear osme of what they're saying? I'm not suggesting eavesdropping, just hearing enough to know whether they are discussing the operation of the store. I seem to always come up to the counter right around the time of shift change, and there are 3 or 4 people who don't quite have a handle on which one of them is going on register. It's not rude, it's just poor planning on their part. A lot of stores these days have hand-held devices that resemble smartphones that are used in the operation of the store. Or just specialized apps their employees download. idk. I just see them using what look like phones to check prices or locate what aisle an item is on.

@Marmaduke: I don't eavesdrop occasionally I've heard words that suggest the staff are ordering in stock but generally it rarely seems like store operations. It's really only a small convenience/ newsagent type shop with a mini post office inside ran by a family and a couple of regular staff so no need for shift changes or anything.
